Bittersweet Day
Last night I got some shocking news that a dear friend of ours who went into the hospital with pneumonia this past weekend will be going home to see the Lord very soon (maybe even today). For those who know her, know there is no one like her. She is one of the most special people in my life. My son was supposed to be born on her birthday (his due date) but missed it by a few hours. She spent many nights at our house in Rockport with her husband and brother in-law. This woman is irreplaceable as her sister said. I am sure God has a big plan for all of us left behind, especially her husband and her family because no on can fill her shoes. I am rejoicing with her that she will meet her King. But my heart breaks for everyone else. Praise God for His mercy. If you think of it, lift up her family and friends in your prayers.

Happy Anniversary to Us
It’s been nine years filled with adventure, risk, trusting God, growing in God, sad times, failures and many, many blessings from our Creator.

Art Class 3 by Unlikely Art Teachers
In case you missed it my friend Bethany and I are volunteering to teach art at our church’s Christian high school. Beth’s daughter is a freshman there and our class has 9 – 12 graders. We have a very limited amount of time because we presented our idea after the schedule and curriculum were set for the year. We do have a room and a class and students. For all of that we are very grateful.
The assignment is mixed media on wood. The mixed media has to involve paint, letters in any form (many chose to mod podge magazine cut outs), wood burning and mod podge something on.
These girls and one boy have talent! How cool are the ones above?
Wood burning.
Cutest helper on earth. Beth and I were paper maching plastic pumpkins which have been our second project but we haven’t been able to get to it.
Above is Beth helping Henry work on the pumpkin.

Under Major Distress
This project is not my next in order but after waiting over a month to receive hardware in the mail, it just so happened that I was able to finish two dressers with plenty of extra time. This one happened to be easier to put the hardware on…
I was given this dresser by my friend Amy. Unfortunately I don’t think I have a before photo.
You can see the other dresser partially finished behind.
Now, I know this isn’t for everyone. I really wanted to try my hand at a very distressed piece. This piece has a distressed dark stained top. It was white when I received it. I painted different shades of gold, gray and white. I added a stain on top of the paint to age the white after it was heavily and I mean heavily distressed. As you can see, I chipped off, scratched off, sanded off to the original stained wood that may have been painted over several times before I received it. Then I waxed it.
The hardware is a very rustic, rusted metal hoop. Simple but fitting.
Oh how I love the different textures and colors. So much at work here.
This is sort of a washed out photo against the bright yellow but one of the complete shape.
At the Park
Henry and mommy at the park yesterday. It was way to hot for a sweater. I was sweltering. Henry loved it. He and daddy found this park about a week ago.
Some kids showed up who were going down the slide with their cute dog. Henry thought this was hilarious.
Naturally he was wearing his Bob the Builder hat when we first go there. Here he is with daddy helping him on the balance beam.
Henry loved the dog. Highlight of his time.
Pinterest Favs of the Week
This post has a disclaimer. I have so many Pinterest favorites I would never bore you with all of them. These are just the ones I happen to catch my eye when I do the post. Pinterest is such a gift to a visionary. You can start a million projects in your mind and never finish them and there’s no harm done. Pinterest is also a great way to motivate yourself in a certain area in your life. I need motivation when it comes to making new gluten free recipes. Pinterest gives a photo and the link to the recipe! Voila! So facile (French)!
I am almost tempted not to share this photo because I love it so much. Very selfish and evil, I know. This is a DIY pallet wall via. Wow. Love. Love. Love.
Isn’t that the absolute truth via.
I don’t always love every single aspect of someone else’s design, but I can appreciate almost every aspect of the design. This one may be love all the way around though not quite sure I would do marble on white. I love the board backsplash. Love the range top, the sink, the hardware. The window design is magical. The open view cupboards add dimension to the cupboards. Love the towel draping over the sink. So classic. Via.
How amazing are the sequoia trees? I want to go see them. Via.
Did I put this in before? I just love it. When I was a little girl my grandfather on my mother’s side (to whom I am very close) used to plow his driveways out with an old truck. I remember riding in it with him. I remember it not having any heat and freezing to death but never wanting to trade hanging out with him. ♥. via.
Doesn’t a pretty red door make everything better? via. I was going to say I am beginning to show my New England roots, but these photos are from the South! Goes to show you how much alike we Americans are.
This may be a touch too formal for a woman with a toddler but I love the black treads with white risers. I love the wallpaper though in the past I have been a self-confessed wallpaper hater. The tides are turning. No source on this one.
All I could think of when I saw this photo was Lion of Judah. It made me like it even more and I am not a crazy lion collector. I have never even saved a photo of one. via.
I like the mix media crazy bird here. via.
