My friend Beth got on a horse. I have been daring her for over a year. Today she faced her fears for the sake of the children and got on a horse! Thanks Stacey for helping with this!

Quick Cousin Visit
George and Eva had a pit stop at our house on their way home from Charleston, SC to RI. They got in late last night. I told Henry they would be here so the first thing he asked George this morning is, “Where is Eva?”
He had fun with his cousins and wanted to go with them when then left.
Stop by anytime, George and Eva!

Curtains Finally GONE–Score!
I can’t tell you how happy I am that as of this evening the previous owner’s curtains/drapes are GONE! Yes, it has taken us that long to get them down. Mostly because Dave didn’t want me to take them down!
Now we need to paint!
Thanks, Dave!!

Here is my latest hunk-o-junk project.
It is a solid piece of oak! Not that I am fond of oak, but I am fond of things made out of wood!
This kid loves the farm, loves the animals and loves the big equipment. It is such a challenge to get him to leave. I feel guilty when we go several days without going there or when we have to leave because he is such a little farmer. He told everyone all day that he was busy working and had jobs to do.
Hooking up the team for a wagon ride on a very muggy day. Rye and her friend Sam were at the farm and wanted an adventure.

33 Weeks–Less than 50 days til Due Date!
Wow, it seems like the weeks are rolling by so fast. I don’t think I felt this way when I was pregnant with Henry because I didn’t have Henry to spend time with or chase around.

Today I went to the Mom’s Bible Study at our church and there is a two week series being taught on the book 5 Love Languages of Children. I think it’s excellent and am gleaning a lot from it about what Henry’s love languages are. I think it’s perfect timing because I realize these last weeks are the end of season in our lives where it’s just Henry and mommy. And as much as I love this unborn child and know it’s God’s perfect plan for Henry, I am so thankful for that time we had together alone. So special and something I will only have with him. Before that gets me a little sad, I had a good chuckle about this book being taught. I just had a good laugh to myself when I imagined this being taught to my grandfather or mother. I think their response at the time of raising children would have been our love language is that we put a roof over your head, feed you and your not getting number of beatings (harsh word for effect) you really deserve. Times have certainly changed. And though these books are great, some border on too much child focus. And we must balance it that we still live in a fallen culture and our times are maybe even tougher on children even with all of these great tools like this book at our finger tips.
I am loving when the sun shines and we can take advantage of this spring weather here in the mid-Atlantic states. When my energy is high, like today, Henry and I have very busy days going to Bible studies, cleaning, planting perennials, attending furniture auctions and hanging out with family outside. And putting 50,000 coats of poly on my headboard I was hoping to have been done before this. But there’s something enchanting and magical about the spring and I just praise God for it. Nothing like some good fresh air.
Baby Umstead is moving around A LOT. I probably have said this before, but I don’t remember Henry pushing, kicking and stretching so hard that it physically hurt. The doctor said it’s normal because the first kid stretches you out and then you feel 5 million times more pregnant with your second.
We have no names picked out but even if we did, we wouldn’t tell anyone.
Here’s what babycenter.com says about 33 weeks pregnant:
This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance.) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

Evening with the Umsteads
Snuggling with daddy this evening.
Funny conversation about this. I made a quick attempt to try my hand at making a piece of art for our bedroom this morning while I was talking on the phone to my cousin. I wasn’t trying anything fancy (obviously) and wasn’t putting a lot of time into it because I was just experimenting. So I threw it into an extra Ikea frame I hadn’t used yet. When Dave got home I asked him if he liked my art work. He asked me where I got it. I told him I made it. And explained that I knew it was not that great but don’t be too mean. He then asked where I printed the picture off and clearly I didn’t do it. Then I really thought he was joking. I told him it took me a few minutes, but he’s convinced that I printed it off the internet and transferred it to the wood. Which I guess is compliment. But really funny at the same time.
Henry’s Funny Little Ways
Yesterday I was at a local hardware store looking at paint swatches. There was another woman very close to us. I was very distracted trying to match something from memory when Henry kept repeating that, “I hied this, mommy,” and pointing to the lady. I couldn’t figure it out. Would could he have hidden. Then the women said, “He did hi me.” He was trying to tell me that he said hello to the woman. “I hied this, mommy.” So cute.
So today at my prenatal check up the receptionist was saying hello to Henry in the waiting room, trying to make conversation. She asked if he was playing with the toys and he told her no. And then said, “My dog ate my poop.” She just looked. The statement was very sick but very true. I was hoping to remove it from any part of my memory but the visual I didn’t want was fresh again. Henry indeed had pooped in his potty in the morning and when I went to clean it out a few minutes later, Maggie had had herself a snack. I wanted to vomit. I still do. I do think it’s funny that’s what Henry chose to tell the receptionist. Not sure if she liked having the information. Probably not.
